Summary: Beans, greens
Comment: I use this pot every couple days to cook a batch of dry beans (1 pound dry) or fresh kale, collards or turnip greens. The results are much better and more consistent than when I used thinner steel pots.

I soak the beans in a separate container for six hours, discard the soak water, put a couple tablespoons of olive olive oil in the bottom of the pot, warm it up empty a bit, add the beans, add new water to cover the beans, toss in a fresh carrot to absorb the flatuence-inducing product of the beans, put on the lid -- and cook at medium/low-medium for about an hour and a half. The oil prevents the foam from spilling over. Toss the carrot, and I've got perfect beans every time.

I cook greens for only five to ten minutes, having added about a cup and a half of water to get the steam going.They've been coming out great.

The pot is a bit heavy, but I'm used to it. I never try to lift it when it is full: I ladle or tong stuff out.

The pre-seasoning is O.K., but I think I'll do an oven season job on all my cast-iron ware about once a month. Adding a little oil and warming the pot a bit before putting food in seems to do the trick for keeping things from sticking.

Comment: Only used it once so far......but it's a pot and works fine! I have other cast iron Lodge products and like them. They last forever and cook wonderfully on the outside BBQ.

Summary: Use it as an asian wok
Comment: My husband and I are cast iron lovers. We bought a Lodge frying pan a year ago and then decided to have a larger and deeper one, we use it as a wok, mostly stir fry, stew, as you can expect for any cast iron, it is not good for acid food (like tomato etc. the color will be darker). But it is good for everyday asian style cooking.It is heavy, yet sturdy. Easy to clean, just hot water will do. We have a set of stainless cookware, now we rarely use it anymore.

Comment: I could not be more pleased with this product. The pre-seasoning was perfect, and the oven is extremely versatile. I have had excellent results cooking breads, casseroles, stews and roasted meats in my 5qt. The 5qt is a nice size to use when cooking for 2-4 people. I do follow care instructions to the letter and have had absolutely no problems with rust or with degradation of the cooking surface. I would recommend storing the oven on a wire rack to promote air circulation and to prevent unabsorbed oil you've rubbed on the exterior from transferring to your cabinet liner. Love it!

Summary: Can't live without it
Comment: It's difficult to get my wife to cook with anything else. Not just for camping. Just toss everything in and put it on the stove. Things seem much better than when cooked in other pots. Highly recommended. You just don't want to take it backpacking.
